Wood Carving has been my passion ever since my frustrated pursuit of painting fizzled . . . I could never get the "depth" I was looking for. Whether wood is carved in low-relief or in-the-round, the contours, irregularities and wood grain itself embrace nature's own beauty. Shading, being the key to attaining depth in painting, is natural and built into a carved sculpture or plaque.
Natural wood finishing preserves and protects as well as enhance the patina of select woods. Painting with translucent colors helps animate a carving (eyes, skin, clothing, etc.).
